Trucking and Logistics Companies

Software for freight brokering:

While there are overnight export success stories, most companies must be prepared to invest both time and financial resources to see the return on their investment and the subsequent success. Consequently, financial stability and a secure cash flow are important during this period. In some cases, businesses can rely on their domestic sales to sustain their early export efforts. If this is not possible, it is a good idea to know what financing options are available. Exporters must develop a financial plan to understand and address the diverse costs associated with exporting, complete with a two- to three-year cash budget to cover expenses and a capital budget. An air freight forwarder provides pickup and delivery service under its own tariff, consolidates shipments into larger units, prepares shipping documentation, and tenders shipments to the airlines.

Air freight forwarders do not generally operate their own aircraft and may therefore be called "indirect air carriers." Because the air freight forwarder tenders the shipment, the airlines consider the forwarder to be the shipper. A capital budget is a cost-benefit assessment of your export objectives and serves as your operating plan for measuring expenditures and revenues. You have committed yourself to exporting. You have the skills and the resources to undertake the challenge. You have researched the market and prepared your export plan, international marketing plan and financial plan. Your market entry strategy is clear and the support system (i.e. freight forwarder, customs broker, financial lenders, legal advisors) is in place. You have gone through the export process step-by-step and feel confident that you have covered all the bases. There are numerous international conventions, treaties and national, regional and municipal rules that can affect your ability to operate successfully in foreign markets. Exporters may also encounter disputes with agents or distributors, clients or creditors. It is important to understand your rights and obligations when resolving disputes, selling goods or services and protecting intellectual property.

What is a Freight Broker or Freight Forwarder:

A "Freight Broker" is someon who sells/arranges transportation without actually providing it themselves. Much like a real estate broker who doesn't actually purchase the house, but just helps you make all the arrangements to do so. The phrase “freight broker” usually refers to an agent for TL shipments, who make a living by matching shippers with motor carriers (AKA trucking companies). Freight brokers often do not assume responsibility for the shipments they arrange.   A freight forwarder is another common name for a freight broker.  This job combines less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments into carload or truckload lots. Freight forwarders are considered common carriers. They also issue bills of lading and accept responsibility for cargo. The term may also refer to the company that fills railroad trains with trailers.

Transport logistics:

Dictionary.com defines logistics as the branch of military science and operations dealing with the procurement, supply, and maintenance of equipment, with the movement, evacuation, and hospitalization of personnel, with the provision of facilities and services, and with related matters. We think that definition of freight broker logistics makes a lot of sense. Logistics truelyis the art of managing the supply chain and science of managing and controlling the flow of goods, energy, information and other resources like products, services and people from the source of production to the marketplace. It is difficult or nearly impossible to accomplish any international trading, global export/import processes, international repositioning of raw materials/products and manufacturing without a professional logistical support. It involves the integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material handling, and packaging. The operating responsibility of logistics is the geographical repositioning of raw materials, work in process and finished inventories where required at the lowest cost possible. Logistics is an idea considered to have transformed from the military's need to supply themselves as they moved from their base to a forward position. Many poeple don't realize, but in the ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine empires, some military officers had the title ‘Logistikas'. These men were responsible for their units financial and supply distribution matters.

Learn How To Be A Freight Broker:

A Brief History of Freight Broker Software:

For decades the process of transporting goods and services was all handled the old fashioned way, by using a pen and paper. Then with the advent of the micro-computer and mainframe computers in the 1960's, freight brokering took a huge step forward.  The new widespread use of telecommunications technology helped shippers, freight brokers, transportation companies, manufacturers and even trucking companies all to streamline and speed up the freight and logistics transportation process.  A lot of trucking and freight logistics companies started developing their own primitive freight broker software back in the 60's and 70's.  Even before they had load boards, these earlier freight companies broke new ground in the fright brokering industry by using new technologies.

Unlike many modern web-based fright broker software packages available today such as LoadPilot, these early software packages were cumbersome and difficult to use. For individuals looking to become a freight broker or freight agent, they posed a real barrier to entry in the industry.  Like in many other industries, these early main-frame base programs were too expensive for smaller operations and only became more wide spread later on when desktop PC's became popular in the mid 80's.

Early trucking software was custom built and run on company mainframes at the large carriers. But what is fright broker software really? And why should freight agents, freight brokers, shippers and consignors care?

At its very basis, freight broker software helps you track, manage, organize and invoice all your loads and suppliers. But that's just the beginning. To be powerful and effective, it should be 100% web based software. Also, many logistics companies truly benefit from that freedom because they are able to see all their info in real time and don't have to worry about expensive updates and backups.
